Inguinal ligament



The Inguinal Ligament


    is a band extended inferio-medially from anterior superior iliac spine ASIS of ilium , to pubic tubercle of pubic bone .

- Attached laterally ASIS of ilium , and curves downward  medially to pubic tubercle of pubic bone .

- lies beneath the skin , and can be felt along its length .


Structures that pass deep to the inguinal ligament :

* Psoas major , iliacus , and pectineus muscles .
* Femoral nerve , femoral artery , and femoral vein .
* Lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh .
* Lymphatics .


Importance :

* Fold separates between the abdominal and the thigh region .
* In anatomy is very important for operating on hernia patients .
* Its forms the base of the inguinal canal , and superior border of the femoral triangle .
* Its formed by the extensor abdominal oblique aponeurosis , and is continuous with the fascia lata of the thigh .
